From Claire Richardson, Winemaker
The Founder’s Blend is more than just a wine; it’s a quiet celebration of the people who believed in us before there was anything in bottle.
The Vintage
Much needed rain and mild temperatures before several weeks of long 100+ degree temperatures. Sugars stalled, but grapes were harvested at ideal pH and acidity levels with great balance.
Winemaking
24-hour cold soak. Fermented in oak fermenter, aged 20 months in 15% new French oak barrels.
Food Pairing
Pair with braised Italian sausage with roasted fennel
The Vineyard
Our 55 planted acres are within the Hoover’s Valley, which runs through the Llano Uplift formation in the Texas Hill Country AVA.
Situated near the banks of the Colorado River, the alluvial soils along with the significant mineral deposits make this a truly unique growing environment. Uplift itself has four distinct soil types, with each planted variety chosen for its suitability to the ground in which it resides: sand, granite, sandy loam and clay.
Malbec Block D: est. 2015, sandy loam & clay soil, clone France Cot 180, rootstock 5BB
Aglianico Block E: est. 2015, sandy loam soil, clone VCR 07, rootstock 5BB
Elevation: 860 to 880 feet
