From Claire Richardson, Winemaker
The 2023 Estiva is a Madeira-inspired style of Roussanne. Aromas of dried apricot, white peach, and honeysuckle open into rich layers of honeycomb, butter, and warm biscuit. Sweetened by a late harvest, the palate is balanced by bright acidity and seamlessly integrated alcohol.
The Vintage
Much needed rain and mild temperatures before several weeks of long 100+ degree temperatures. Sugars stalled, but grapes were harvested at ideal pH and acidity levels with great balance.
Winemaking
Harvested at 28 °Bx. Oak tank ferment was halted by brandy. Madeirized 32 months in old barrels.
Food Pairing
Apricot and blue cheese tart with honey-brown sugar crumble
The Vineyard
Our 55 planted acres are within the Hoover’s Valley, which runs through the Llano Uplift formation in the Texas Hill Country AVA.
Situated near the banks of the Colorado River, the alluvial soils along with the significant mineral deposits make this a truly unique growing environment. Uplift itself has four distinct soil types, with each planted variety chosen for its suitability to the ground in which it resides: sand, granite, sandy loam and clay.
Elevation: 860 to 880 feet
