From Claire Richardson, Winemaker

The inaugural Merlot release will be one to remember for its depth of flavor, density, and characteristic varietal expression. Intense aromatics fill the glass while ripe fruit, fresh herbs, and cocoa linger on the palate.

The Vintage

One of the driest vintages of the last few decades. About 40% reduced yield, heat that spurred ripening, and rain around harvest time led to an interesting, one-of-a-kind vintage.

Winemaking

48-hour cold soak. Fermented in large oak fermenter/tank. Aged 18 months in 15% new French oak.

Food Pairing

Coffee and cocoa rubbed filet with parmesan cream sauce and fire-roasted vegetables

The Vineyard

Our 55 planted acres are within the Hoover’s Valley, which runs through the Llano Uplift formation in the Texas Hill Country AVA.

Situated near the banks of the Colorado River, the alluvial soils along with the significant mineral deposits make this a truly unique growing environment. Uplift itself has four distinct soil types, with each planted variety chosen for its suitability to the ground in which it resides: sand, granite, sandy loam and clay.
