From Claire Richardson, Winemaker

Predominantly Mourvèdre and Sangiovese saignée rosé, the Roussanne and Marsanne were added for body, texture, mouthfeel, and to boost aromatics.

The Vintage

One of the driest vintages of the last few decades. About 40% reduced yield, heat that spurred ripening, and rain around harvest time led to an interesting, one-of-a-kind vintage.

Winemaking

Barrel fermented and aged Roussanne; Marsanne fermented in stainless steel and concrete, then aged in oak and concrete. The Mourvèdre and Sangiovese were saignéed and aged in concrete egg.

Food Pairing

Youthful, creamy cheeses, citrus vinaigrettes, and cream sauces over seafood.

The Vineyard

Our 55 planted acres are within the Hoover’s Valley, which runs through the Llano Uplift formation in the Texas Hill Country AVA.

Situated near the banks of the Colorado River, the alluvial soils along with the significant mineral deposits make this a truly unique growing environment. Uplift itself has four distinct soil types, with each planted variety chosen for its suitability to the ground in which it resides: sand, granite, sandy loam and clay.

Sangiovese Block H: sandy loam soil

Mourvèdre Block A

Roussanne Block C: granite soil, planted 2013-2019

Marsanne Block I: sand soil, planted 2016

Elevation: 1,200 to 1,300 feet
