From Claire Richardson, Winemaker

Many Super Tuscan style wines can be made from Uplift Vineyard. I love to blend Bordeaux varieties with Italian varieties since they complement each other well. The Merlot and Malbec in this blend gently build the structure of this wine to strengthen the base of Sangiovese.

The Vintage

One of the driest vintages of the last few decades. About 40% reduced yield, heat that spurred ripening, and rain around harvest time led to an interesting, one-of-a-kind vintage.

Winemaking

18 months in neutral French oak barrels after a 48-hour cold soak and oak tank fermentation.

Food Pairing

Lamb ragù and pecorino cheese

The Vineyard

Our 55 planted acres are within the Hoover’s Valley, which runs through the Llano Uplift formation in the Texas Hill Country AVA.

Situated near the banks of the Colorado River, the alluvial soils along with the significant mineral deposits make this a truly unique growing environment. Uplift itself has four distinct soil types, with each planted variety chosen for its suitability to the ground in which it resides: sand, granite, sandy loam and clay.

Merlot Block J1: est. 2017, granite soil, clone VCR 101, rootstock 1103P

Sangiovese Block H: est. 2016, sandy loam soil, clone VCR 06, rootstock 1103P

Elevation: 860 to 880 feet
