From Claire Richardson, Winemaker

Whitlock is special to me in that I get to craft a blend with Bordeaux varieties in a way that highlights all of the best characteristics of each variety. This is elegant, age-worthy and the perfect way to complement a meal.

The Vintage

A mass freeze in February and hail in May reduced quantity significantly, yet a cool summer yielded exceptional quality and balance in the remaining grapes.

Winemaking

Aged in neutral oak barrels for 18 months.

Food Pairing

Braised beef short ribs with smoked paprika pumpkin puree.

The Vineyard

Our 55 planted acres are within the Hoover’s Valley, which runs through the Llano Uplift formation in the Texas Hill Country AVA.

Situated near the banks of the Colorado River, the alluvial soils along with the significant mineral deposits make this a truly unique growing environment. Uplift itself has four distinct soil types, with each planted variety chosen for its suitability to the ground in which it resides: sand, granite, sandy loam and clay.

Malbec Block D: est. 2015, sandy loam & clay soil, clone France Cot 180, rootstock 5BB

Cabernet Sauvignon Block L: est. 2017, granite soil, clone VCR 191, rootstock 1103P

Elevation: 860 to 880 feet
