From Claire Richardson, Winemaker
The Sangiovese at Uplift Vineyard is among the favorites of the vineyard team to work with. Year over year, the it grows an excellent quality crop and is able to stand up to the varying weather conditions that we face.
The Vintage
A mass freeze in February and hail in May reduced quantity significantly, yet a cool summer yielded exceptional quality and balance in the remaining grapes.
Winemaking
16 months in oak, 4 months in bottle. Neutral oak.
Food Pairing
Umami dishes with a tomato or mushroom base.
The Vineyard
Our 55 planted acres are within the Hoover’s Valley, which runs through the Llano Uplift formation in the Texas Hill Country AVA.
Situated near the banks of the Colorado River, the alluvial soils along with the significant mineral deposits make this a truly unique growing environment. Uplift itself has four distinct soil types, with each planted variety chosen for its suitability to the ground in which it resides: sand, granite, sandy loam and clay.
Sangiovese Block H: est. 2016, sandy loam soil, clone VCR 06, rootstock 1103P
