From Claire Richardson, Winemaker
This is a fun wine for me to blend because I'm able to make this wine personally to share it with our beloved founder's who established the Uplift brand. In 2021 our estate Cabernet Sauvignon was the star of the show.
The Vintage
A mass freeze in February and hail in May reduced quantity significantly, yet a cool summer yielded exceptional quality and balance in the remaining grapes.
Winemaking
Aged in neutral oak barrels for 18 months.
Food Pairing
Roasted butternut squash risotto with mushrooms sage gremolata.
The Vineyard
Our 55 planted acres are within the Hoover’s Valley, which runs through the Llano Uplift formation in the Texas Hill Country AVA.
Situated near the banks of the Colorado River, the alluvial soils along with the significant mineral deposits make this a truly unique growing environment. Uplift itself has four distinct soil types, with each planted variety chosen for its suitability to the ground in which it resides: sand, granite, sandy loam and clay.
Cabernet Sauvignon Block L: est. 2017, granite soil, clone VCR 191, rootstock 1103P
Malbec Block D: est. 2015, sandy loam & clay soil, clone France Cot 180, rootstock 5BB
Elevation: 1,200 to 1,300 feet
