From Claire Richardson, Winemaker

Inspiration for this wine came from incredible Super Tuscans I have had. Though predominantly Montepulciano, it is the seamless blend with Bordeaux varieties that allow this wine to have the depth of character that it does.

The Vintage

A mass freeze in February and hail in May reduced quantity significantly, yet a cool summer yielded exceptional quality and balance in the remaining grapes.

Winemaking

16 months in oak, 4 months in bottle. Neutral Oak

Food Pairing

gamey meats and umami-heavy dishes with mushrooms and tomato.

The Vineyard

Our 55 planted acres are within the Hoover’s Valley, which runs through the Llano Uplift formation in the Texas Hill Country AVA.

Situated near the banks of the Colorado River, the alluvial soils along with the significant mineral deposits make this a truly unique growing environment. Uplift itself has four distinct soil types, with each planted variety chosen for its suitability to the ground in which it resides: sand, granite, sandy loam and clay.

Aglianico Block E: est. 2015, sandy loam soil, clone VCR 07, rootstock 5BB

Montepulciano Block G: est. 2015, sandy loam soil, clone VCR 10, rootstock 1103P

Elevation: 860 to 880 feet
