From Claire Richardson, Winemaker

The Cellar Series is where I get to play, follow instinct, explore nuance, and let the wines tell a slightly different story. This Sangiovese-based blend is juicy, rustic, and memorable on the palate.

The Vintage

Much needed rain and mild temperatures before several weeks of long 100+ degree temperatures. Sugars stalled, but grapes were harvested at ideal pH and acidity levels with great balance.

Winemaking

24-hour cold soak. Fermented in large oak fermenter. Aged in 15% new French oak barrels for 20 months.

Food Pairing

Braised veal tortellini en brodo

The Vineyard

Our 55 planted acres are within the Hoover’s Valley, which runs through the Llano Uplift formation in the Texas Hill Country AVA.

Situated near the banks of the Colorado River, the alluvial soils along with the significant mineral deposits make this a truly unique growing environment. Uplift itself has four distinct soil types, with each planted variety chosen for its suitability to the ground in which it resides: sand, granite, sandy loam and clay.

Aglianico Block E: est. 2015, sandy loam soil, clone VCR 07, rootstock 5BB

Sangiovese Block H: est. 2016, sandy loam soil, clone VCR 06, rootstock 1103P

Montepulciano Block G: est. 2016, sandy loam soil, clone VCR 10, rootstock 1103P
