From Claire Richardson, Winemaker
A blend of Italian grape varieties, accentuated by full-bodied Bordeaux varieties. Its vibrant fruit and woodsy nose are standout elements in its bouquet of mouthwatering aromatics. On the palate, acidity and tannins provide a beautiful backdrop for structure, elegance, and complexity.
The Vintage
Much needed rain and mild temperatures before several weeks of long 100+ degree temperatures. Sugars stalled, but grapes were harvested at ideal pH and acidity levels with great balance.
Winemaking
24-hour cold soak. Oak tank fermentation. Aged in 20% new French oak barrels for 16 months.
Food Pairing
Tuscan rabbit ragu with pappardelle
The Vineyard
Our 55 planted acres are within the Hoover’s Valley, which runs through the Llano Uplift formation in the Texas Hill Country AVA.
Situated near the banks of the Colorado River, the alluvial soils along with the significant mineral deposits make this a truly unique growing environment. Uplift itself has four distinct soil types, with each planted variety chosen for its suitability to the ground in which it resides: sand, granite, sandy loam and clay.
Montepulciano Block G: est. 2016, sandy loam soil, clone VCR 10, rootstock 1103P
Cabernet Sauvignon Block L: est. 2017, granite soil, clone VCR 191, rootstock 1103P
Elevation: 860 to 880 feet
