From Claire Richardson, Winemaker
Badu is deeply rooted in the land at Uplift. It carries the texture of the land—dusty, sun-warmed, and layered with a kind of rustic elegance that only this site can offer.
The Vintage
Much needed rain and mild temperatures before several weeks of long 100+ degree temperatures. Sugars stalled, but grapes were harvested at ideal pH and acidity levels with great balance.
Winemaking
24-hr cold soak. Large format oak fermentation. Aged 16 months in 20% new French oak barrels.
Food Pairing
Fire-roasted chicken with vegetable caponata
The Vineyard
Our 55 planted acres are within the Hoover’s Valley, which runs through the Llano Uplift formation in the Texas Hill Country AVA.
Situated near the banks of the Colorado River, the alluvial soils along with the significant mineral deposits make this a truly unique growing environment. Uplift itself has four distinct soil types, with each planted variety chosen for its suitability to the ground in which it resides: sand, granite, sandy loam and clay.
Aglianico Block E: est. 2015, sandy loam soil, clone VCR 07, rootstock 5BB
Sangiovese Block H: est. 2016, sandy loam soil, clone VCR 06, rootstock 1103P
