From Claire Richardson, Winemaker
Old world in style, this Sangiovese smells like Tuscany and tastes like Texas. Bold fruit, roasted tomato, and culinary herbs create richness and depth, showcasing the relationship between the fruity, savory, and herbal nuances of the wine.
The Vintage
One of the driest vintages of the last few decades. About 40% reduced yield, heat that spurred ripening, and rain around harvest time led to an interesting, one-of-a-kind vintage.
Winemaking
48-hour soak and oak tank ferment. 18 months in 10% new E. European and French oak barrels.
Food Pairing
Bucatini pomodoro with Parmigiano Reggiano
The Vineyard
Our 55 planted acres are within the Hoover’s Valley, which runs through the Llano Uplift formation in the Texas Hill Country AVA.
Situated near the banks of the Colorado River, the alluvial soils along with the significant mineral deposits make this a truly unique growing environment. Uplift itself has four distinct soil types, with each planted variety chosen for its suitability to the ground in which it resides: sand, granite, sandy loam and clay.
Sangiovese Block H: est. 2016, sandy loam soil, clone VCR 06, rootstock 1103P
Elevation: 860 to 880 feet
